Step by step
- If your child was born in Austria, the benefit is usually granted automatically: the tax office sends a notice and starts paying.
- In all other cases (for example you arrived with children) file form Beih 100 — online in FinanzOnline or at the tax office.
- Foreign nationals need lawful residence (under §§ 8–9 NAG or granted asylum). Displaced persons from Ukraine have separate rules since 1 July 2026 — see the BBU link below.
- Payments reach your account by the 8th of the month. In August children aged 6–15 also get a school start bonus of €121.40.
What to bring
- Children's birth certificates (translated if needed)
- Address registration (Meldezettel) of parents and children
- Residence documents
- Bank details (IBAN)
Common mistakes
Assuming it arrives by itself when the child was born abroad. You must file Beih 100.
Not reporting changes: a move, an older child ending their studies, leaving the country. Overpayments must be repaid.
