Step by step
- Choose the level: Integrationsprüfung A2 for Module 1, Integrationsprüfung B1 for Module 2 (Daueraufenthalt – EU, citizenship).
- Find a date and venue in the ÖIF Prüfungstermine list (sprachportal.at): exams take place at over 500 venues across Austria — at the ÖIF or at certified course providers.
- For an exam at the ÖIF, register online at least 3 weeks ahead and pay at least 10 days ahead: the payment receipt is your binding confirmation.
- Prepare for both parts: language (Lesen, Hören, Schreiben, Sprechen) and Werte- und Orientierungswissen — a single-choice test on living together, equality, the rule of law, education and work.
- On exam day bring an original, valid photo ID — without it you cannot sit the exam.
- Within 15 working days the ÖIF emails your result. Submit the certificate (Zeugnis) to the Niederlassungsbehörde.
What to bring
- Original valid photo ID: Reisepass (expired by up to 1 year is accepted), Austrian Aufenthaltstitel card or Austrian driving licence
- Proof of payment of the exam fee
- Exam registration confirmation
Common mistakes
Expecting to retake just one part. There are no partial certificates: if you fail, you repeat the whole exam (no limit on attempts).
Preparing only the language. Without a sufficient score in Werte- und Orientierungswissen the Integrationsprüfung is not passed.
Turning up without an original photo ID — a copy will not do, and you will not be allowed to sit the exam.
Submitting an old A2 certificate for a renewal: in the renewal procedure the Zeugnis must be no more than two years old.
